“The “abhorrent” incidents are revealed in records kept by the Metropolitan Police’s Wildlife Crime Unit – released by Charity World Animal Protection (WAP) in the hope of raising awareness and reducing the impact of wildlife crime.
There were 14 incidents in Havering between January and June this year, including:
• Deer poaching using a snare.
• Shooting at rabbits and foxes with powerful weapons not suitable for the area.
• Rabbits being hunted and captured alive. This was logged as a crime and resulted in police giving the suspect “words of advice”.
• A “pigeon cull at a Tesco shop”.
The incidents, which are not necessarily crimes but concerns flagged for police investigation, are recorded on a London-wide map detailing the relative situation in all 32 boroughs.”
