“A local student action group based at Newquay’s Cornwall College has been training wildlife crime police officers ahead of the introduction of a new law to curb the spread of invasive plant species.
A new legislation is being introduced across the European Union in an attempt to stop the spread of invasive species, like Japanese Knotweed.
The new rules mean there will now be a ban on the possession, transport, selling or growing of species deemed as of “Union Concern”.
To help prepare for the law changes, the Newquay based Student Invasive Non-Native Group (SINNG) held a workshop training session for Devon and Cornwall Police Wildlife Crime Officers, which focused on how to identify and remove five particular aquatic species of plant.”
