“DATE: 17/12/2013. Following a six day trial, Stephen Brown 47yrs, from St. Helens in Merseyside was acquitted on six counts relating to the import and trade in endangered species. It had been alleged that Brown had fraudulently evaded import restrictions when acquiring Caracal skins from South Africa in 2011. It had been alleged that Brown was intending to use the skins in a taxidermy business. Brown always maintained he was a hobbyist and not a professional. Brown had also been charged with the prohibited sale of a Snowy owl and the prohibited purchase of an Ocelot skin.”
